These two feisty pigs love wallowing in mud and having their tummies tickled. You can meet them on the Animal Paddocks Trail. Our rangers are on hand to share stories about them and their escapades on the farm.
The Kune-kune is a small breed of domestic pig from New Zealand. Kune-kune are hairy with a rotund build. Their colour ranges from black and white, to ginger, cream, gold-tip, black, brown, and tricoloured. They have a docile, friendly nature.
Kune-kune pronounced “kooney kooney” means “fat and round” in the Maori language. Unlike most domestic pigs, kune-kune pigs are grazers instead of foragers. They can survive by eating grass alone. Kune-kune pigs are extremely social and will often run to greet their caretakers in the morning.
They are gentle, loving and affectionate animals that thrive on social interaction. They have personality plus. They adore tummy rubs.
